Ryan and I got married on September 17, 2011 at Thunderhawk Golf Club. We fell in love with this venue as soon as we walked in!  We had our ceremony outside, so we lucked out when the weather was in the 60s with the sun shining!

What we loved most about our wedding (besides the AMAZING friends and family that we celebrated with!) were the little personal touches that we added to the day:

  • For our programs Ashley and her mom created double-sided cardstock fans.  One side had the basic 411 about the ceremony and the bridal party.  The other side was a wedding mad-libs! We glued a ribbon with a golf pencil attached so that guests could fill in the mad-libs while waiting for the ceremony to begin....or judging by the content filled in on some on the fans left over after the ceremony, after a few drinks were had.....

  • Instead of printing off menus (that everyone would eventually throw away anyway!) we created a DIY window using chalk board paint to display a welcome note and meal description.  We have the window hanging in our kitchen now to remind us of our special day! For our placecards, we used different rocks and wrote the name of each guest in metallic sharpie.  We still have our rock (it sits on our kitchen table!), and I know a few of our friends do, too!

  • For our center pieces, we have to give credit to Courtney Pilman of Trellis! She did a great job with all of our flowers, and we still- to this day!- hear compliments about our flowers.  We added to the tables our own table numbers that we created by cutting wood rounds and burning in the numbers with a wood burning kit.  We also used this kit to burn a heart with an arrow going through it and our initials into our card box on our gift table and to leave directions with our "guestbook"  tree.

  • Our favors were a nod to Ashley's grandfather who was there with us in spirit.  As a child, "Popeye" (and Grams!) used to give Ashley and her siblings to play the arcade games at our favorite pizza pub.  Since his passing, Ashley's mom has found quarters randomly and we can only assuming it's Popeye letting us know he's still around!  As our favors (that we forgot to take pictures of!) we had envelopes filled with lottery scratch off cards and lucky quarters.  It was a nice way to remember Popeye and earn some of our wedding guests some winnings! (One of our guests even won $50!!)

We enjoyed every minute of our special day, and while Ashley every now and then complains about the fact that we had to plan our wedding pre-Pinterest ::GASP!!:: we wouldn't change a thing!
